Congratulations! You've chosen to venture into the world of Nissan sedans. Though there are many amazing vehicles you can choose from, the two you'll want to especially key in on are the Nissan Sentra and the Nissan Altima. Which one is better for you, you might ask?

At Watermark Nissan of Marion, we set out to compare the two models for our friends and family in Marion, Herrin, and Carbondale, Illinois.

Nissan Sentra vs Nissan Altima: MPG

One of the draws to a sedan for many drivers is the ability to stay on the road longer than other vehicles, which is something the Nissan Sentra and the Nissan Altima take pride in thanks to their great MPG outputs. The Nissan Sentra gets up to an EPA-estimated 29 city/39 highway MPG, and the Altima gets up to an EPA-estimated 28 city/39 highway MPG.1,2

So, while they have very similar outputs, if you want to get the most out of a single tank of fuel, especially in the city, go with the Nissan Sentra.

Sentra vs Altima: Performance

Pop open the hood of the Nissan Sentra and the Nissan Altima and you'll find unmatched sedan power. The Nissan Sentra provides a 2.0L 16-valve 4-cylinder engine that produces 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque with a unique Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission).

The Nissan Altima, by comparison, offers three high-powered engines, which include:

  • 2.5L 16-valve 4-cylinder engine: produces 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. Comes with  the Xtronic CVT®.
  • 2.5L 16-valve 4-cylinder engine: produces 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Comes with the Xtronic CVT®.
  • 2.0L Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo™) 4-cylinder engine: produces 236 to 248 horsepower and 267 to 273 lb-ft of torque. Comes with the Xtronic CVT® and paddle shifters with manual shift mode.

That being the case, if you want to have more engine options and more power, go with the Nissan Altima.
